The floating exhibition “MS Wissenschaft” is a project of the non-profit company Wissenschaft im Dialog (Science in Dialogue) which is supported by major German scientific organisations, including the German Research Foundation, the Fraunhofer Society and the Max Planck Society. The annual exhibition held in 600-square-metre interior of a barge is designed to stimulate interest in the sciences, especially among young people.
The task was to design and implement an exhibition that architecturally and contextually integrated the different experiments provided by scientific organisations and to develop hands-on experiments.
The exhibition dramatically illustrated the daily lives of the fictional protagonists from “Familie2030”. This daily schedule served as matrix to classify the various exhibits provided by the scientific partners.
The visitors followed the daily routine of “Familie2030” around five exhibition islands and discovered the effects of scientific megatrends reflected in a wide variety of interactive future scenarios. Along the principle of “Context encircles Content” the megatrends were flanked by interactive “Visionator” stations.
The visitors could log in and create their own personal “future-profile” from five questions thematically related to the islands. This engaging profile with connected literature and link list could be printed out and taken home at the end of the tour.
